Vilification of Islam is not the objective. Islam is vilified as a necessary conclusion of rational thought.
Muslim extremism simply suspends or ignores rational thought.
A fifteen year old boy in Parramatta. We knew next to nothing of his favourite subject at school, the sports he liked to play, his favourite ice cream flavour. But as soon as we saw the pictures as he shot an Australian we knew for certain he was Islamic. We knew that he believed beyond all rational thought, against all science and knowledge, that he was going to by-pass being buried on death while awaiting judgement day and instead was going straight to a heaven with rewards for himself and his family.
Rather than be friends and co-human on any observable factual basis such as age, sex, nationality or personality or even race or skin colour Islam demands cohesion by adherence to a 1400 year old text with its origins in the myths of the superstitious ages.
There is as much, and as little, reason to believe in Thor as in Islam.
Yet “respect” and freedom from critique is demanded for one and not the other.
“Progressives” and “Moderates” who demand respect for the non-rational are being unreasonable.
We know that disease and mental illnesses are not the result of “evil” or devils. We know why the winds blow and storms rage.
Other religions have ceased to have the power to tell us that their “God” is responsible for natural events or that those men who claim to “know God’s will” are to be obeyed on pain of death.
It is not true that Mohomed was taken on a ride on a horse, with a woman’s face and wings, up to heaven and back. It is not rational to believe it and it is ridiculous to “respect” such a belief, or to be asked to respect it.
Christians and Jews who no longer stone people to death are simply neglecting or ignoring the parts of their texts which are in conflict with contemporary 2015 life. Whether they liked what happened or not, non-religious scientific observations have forced them into modernity and generally they do not want to kill us for believing in reality.
Islam is only believed because it used to be believed at a time when explanations for the unexplainable were being looked for. It was a time of witches, devils and evil spirits.
If the ideology of Islam were introduced today 2015, the idea of a paradise that can be entered, together with a direct path for 70 others, if you kill another human being has to be seen as having no rational base whatsoever.
The idea that some supernatural being demands the killing of other people by particularly foul means, persistently, regularly and ad-infinitum just because they do not believe the same as you is unsupportable in 2015.
...make war on the unbelievers...Koran 9:123.
People who are moderate who are Muslims, and who like Christians, simply ignore or neglect these ideological dictates face the wrath of the Muslims who don’t.
There are good reasons to believe in freedom of thought, democracy, equality of sexes, unlawfulness of wife beating, the separation of governance powers and religion from State. The pursuit of any one of them is anti-Islam.
So if you demand that such “anti-islam” speech be outlawed. Be careful of what you wish for.
Merry Christmas.
