Extreme laws have already been introduced by the Australian Capital Territory, Queensland and Victoria that protect Islam from criticism.
The Islamic State of Saudi Arabia, where women are not even allowed to drive and the definition of the capital offence of terrorism has since 2011 included political criticism of the government is extremist Islam at work.
When the Islamic State of Saudi Arabia was head of the UN Human Rights Committee it introduced and forced through extremist protections which made unlawful the criticism of Islam and which are supposed to be enforced by every member State.
The Australian Government used its sovereign powers not to pass these religious discrimination laws, Section 18C does not apply the hurt feelings test to the religious. That has not stopped the left wing States of Australia.
The ACT, Qld, Victorian State govts have already by passed the s18C controversy and introduced overly protective Religious Discrimination Protective Laws.
The left wing are already for when s18C gets amended or appealed. Those who protest against extremist religion in Australia are already worse off under state laws than the Federal Law.
Any Federal amendments, or a repeal of section 18C, needs to show the Commonwealth has “covered the field” on the constraints of constitutionally guaranteed freedom of speech.
The Federal Government must ensure that it clearly has considered the issue of religious criticism and has decided not to include it in discrimination laws.
In 2016 the Federation of Australia cannot permit individual States to by-pass the national laws. There must be a common standard across the nation.
State legislations are invalid to the extent of their inconsistency with Federal Laws that are intended to “cover the field”.
We must not be left in a worse position in each State with respect to religious hurt feelings brought about by criticism of religion than we are now with race.
If you do not want your religion vilified because of paedophile priests then stop your preachers from being paedophiles. If you do not want your religion vilified for supporting terrorist acts then speak out against it and stop it happening.
I say that the Koran is now itself in breach of the new State laws such as the recent amendments made in the ACT.
The Koran has been made unlawful.
The law must be enforced mustn’t it?
Ban or restrict its circulation and sale.
The “Peaceful Pill Hand Book” which sets out to assist people who may die a violent death by disease with a peaceful way out is banned.
Why should a book that sets out to give a violent death to peaceful people not be banned?.
Freedom of speech and information is why neither book should be banned. So instead:
Use tobacco sales laws.
Brown paper bags only. Warnings on the cover. By request only, No advertising. Not to be sold to Minors. Not to be sold to persons of unsound mind and not to be given to terrorist Prisoners in gaol.
